Hi everyone! This is Erin, the new Media and Technology Coordinator with the CommUnity Zone. I'm excited to bring back the CommUnity Zone blog. I hope that this will be a great space to share news and stories. Happy May! It's starting to feel more like summer out there, so I thought I would share with you three easy walks and hikes around the Susquehanna Valley that I recommend for the weekend: Dale's Ridge Trail 1471 Strawbridge Road, off Route 192 west of Lewisburg Dale's Ridge is a great beginner hike for those wanting to explore nature and see some beautiful views. I've had great experiences doing this trail with friends and family in a variety of weather. Most of the trail is nicely shaded, which provides some shelter from both the sun and those unexpected spring drizzles. Shikellamy State Park Marina 401 Bridge Ave in Sunbury This path is a great flat, accessible trail for an easy walk any time of the day. In the summer, come early in the morning and you may see the crew rowers out on the river. Just be mindful of potential closures due to flooding- it's an island after all! Explore Downtown Lewisburg! As someone who doesn't live in the borough, I love to simply walk the sidewalks of Lewisburg. I'm a big fan of all things architecture, so seeing the historic buildings is especially exciting to me. Stop by the Union County Historical Society in the former Packwood House and grab a historic buildings tour map to assist in your house-spotting. What are some of your favorite hiking and walking spots? Leave a comment- we can create a list for our community to enjoy!
Happy weekend walking, Erin
