Bring your family to Protect, Preserve and Play, the third annual Neighbors Helping Neighbors event in Lewisburg’s Hufnagle Park. This event is free and open to all ages. In addition to learning about your local environment and valuable natural resources, you'll be treated to great music by the Susquehanna Jamcrackers Band, Runaway Stroller, Swampfoot, DePortorLand, and others. Also enjoy activities like buggy rides, a petting zoo from Clyde Peeling’s Reptiland, and learn about our rivers from Carol Parenzan, the Middle Susquehanna Riverkeeper. There will also be guided nature walks, educational exhibits and other activities.
For more information about this event, contact the CommUnity Zone at 570.238-1818, or Cynthia Peltier at peltier@bucknell.edu. Protect, Preserve and Play is a collaborative project of the CommUnity Zone, the Donald Heiter Community Center, The Susquehanna Valley Climate Action Network, and the Rivertown Coalition for the Clean Air and Water.
This third annual event focuses on the environmental health of Central Pennsylvania’s natural resources. We will create a network of local residents, public agencies, non-profit groups, schools, hospitals and churches. Educational topics will include recreation, water protection, sustainable agriculture, farming machinery, clean power, flora and fauna. There will be interactive demonstrations, activities for all ages, and the chance to meet the people who protect and preserve our area. We invite our neighbors to set aside their digital devices and get together face-to- face to enjoy a networking fair and to learn how to work together to protect our natural resources. Organizations will be assigned informational booth space to display their efforts; farms, CSAs and local restaurants will be able to display programs, menus and products. The public will browse these displays, sample products, and engage in conversations and hands-on activities for all ages. Hufnagle Park will serve as a hub for activities which will branch out within easy walking distance throughout downtown Lewisburg. This event will offer an opportunity for community members, businesses and organizations to learn from each other about ways to Protect, Preserve and Play in the Central Susquehanna region. We will give people a chance to network and in a family-friendly and recreational setting, and to explore organization memberships and volunteer opportunities.
“Protect, Preserve, and Play,” a collaborative project of the CommUnity Zone, the Donald Heiter Community Center, the Susquehanna Valley Climate Action Network, and the Rivertown Coalition for Clean Air and Clean Water, will be held Sunday, June 4, 2017. The project promotes local organizations dedicated to Protecting and Preserving our community’s environment, as well as those providing opportunities to Play and learn about the region’s natural resources. Please join our community in “Preserve, Protect and Play”! Celebrate and energize our region’s communities and environmental health.
